Cheryl Garlick - Pastor

When Cheryl first joined CLC in 2005, she was drawn to CLC because of the priority placed on nurturing families and supporting faith formation for kids and youth. CLC cherishes Cheryl for her warm, welcoming love for the children and families of CLC.

Cheryl’s sweet spot is encouraging people to grow in living from their authentic relationship with Jesus. Her desire is to listen well to both God’s Spirit and God’s people, seeking always to lean into God’s wisdom and direction.

Cheryl received her MDiv in 1995 and her certification as a Spiritual Director for adults, youth and children in 2023. In her three decades of serving God in various roles and settings, Cheryl has been blessed to meet God in diverse expressions of the Christian family.

Cheryl loves to grow food and flowers in her garden, lives in an intentional co-housing community, drinks strong black tea with milk and sugar, and appreciates all things chocolate. She loves walks on the beach, especially in winter.

Ben Cha - Pastor

Pastor Ben joined CLC in 2020 during the early days of the COVID 19 pandemic. He loves CLC for its intergenerational ministry. CLC values Pastor Ben for his love of connecting with the congregation and his servant heart.

In full recognition that God’s Kingdom extends far beyond CLC, he is always on the lookout for outreach and mission opportunities in collaboration with other churches and organizations. His favorite CLC memory is the 100th anniversary celebration, where those from the past and present gathered to give thanks for God’s faithfulness and to dream about how God will use CLC in the next 100 years.

Ben received his MDiv in 1994 and Th.M. (Missiology) in 2000. Ben enjoys playing tennis and pickleball. He’s always ready to get to know people on a deeper level over a meal of nang myun and Korean short ribs.

Lynn Yagisawa - Lead Administrator

Lynn is not only a Sansei but also the third generation from her family to attend CLC! Her grandparents were members in the church’s early days. Lynn joined the staff team in 1996. After almost three decades of working at CLC, she continues to enjoy exercising her gifts of helps, mercy, and administration to support the work and mission of CLC and God’s Kingdom. It brings much joy to her heart whenever there’s a baptism at CLC.

Her favorite CLC memories come from the church’s milestone celebrations. She was touched by the reunion and commemoration of past and present pastors at the 80th anniversary celebration. The 100th anniversary celebration in 2022 was a rich fellowship of CLC people who are committed to serving God wherever the Lord has led them, whether nearby or in the far corners of the world.

What does a perfect vacation day look like to Lynn? She’d be in Hawaii drinking a black tea boba with 50% sweetness and mini pearls and listening to a podcast of her favorite Christian author on spiritual disciplines.

Michelle Kaneshiro - Lead Administrator

Michelle started attending CLC in 1992. She was drawn in by the compelling messages, vibrant worship, and friendly members. In 2007, she was asked to help out and has remained on staff ever since. Her gifts of administration, helps, and serving enable her to support the pastors and the vision of the church, and to encourage and love the church community.

Witnessing the many baptisms at CLC are some of her favorite memories. She loves hearing each person’s testimony about how God became their personal Lord and Saviour through life events, circumstances and other people.

One thing God is teaching Michelle right now is how she views self-care - that it’s not only okay but necessary. Given that she’s in a “sandwich” season of caring for aging parents and teen/young adults, God wants her to fill her bucket with things that nourish her soul and bring her joy. Then, she's able to pour out upon those she cares for with love and patience.

Marilyn Tepora - Lead Administrator

Marilyn joined the staff team in 2000 and has been attending CLC since the late 1990s. She appreciates how the intentional selection of worship songs to accompany sermon messages helps the congregation enter into a deeper connection to God. She uses her gifts of serving andhelps to work behind the scenes. Marilyn is encouraged by knowing that her small contributions may have helped someone in their journey with God.

One memorable event for Marilyn was the CLC Volunteer Soirée in 2024. Hearing ministry members speaking candidly about their appreciation for the different ministries that make up the whole of CLC was both encouraging and inspiring. It’s an affirmation of doing church together asa community.

Marilyn loves being with her dog Guinea and eating Thai and Mexican food. What is something Marilyn is learning? She’s humbly learning not to assume that she understands her Gen Z son’s generation.
